OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY IS A BIT DAMP!

Grantham welcomed the Olympic Torch in spectacular fashion last week – by providing almost biblical amounts of rain, thunder and lightening! But the gathered crowds weren’t deterred and, despite the downpour, stayed to cheer the torch through the town

Grantham Guildhall at 2.20pm in the afternoon!

Still, everyone’s spirits remained high even though we had to contend with a sinking stage and flooded dance area. Colin and Paul managed to keep most of the PA dry although not themselves! At one point, if a DeLoren car had driven past the Guildhall, we could have been in a scene from ‘Back to the Future’

And it wasn’t just Grantham that welcomed the torch with a downpour… Tuesday saw us in Stamford where the torch received a slightly better reception in that it didn’t rain quite as much! The crowds however loved it and also enjoyed the choir and dance troupe that entertained them afterwards. Gran Tourismo entertained the crowds once again in all locations with their unique brand of humour. The torch completed its visit through the area by making an appearance in Bourne on Wednesday morning – this time welcomed by very enthusiastic crowds and not as much rain which was a improvement

The slightly damp organising team from SK District Council

SKDC’s organising team including David Mather, Carol Drury and Karen Burrows managed to get completely soaked, as did me and everyone else who ventured out especially at Grantham but we all finished the events with a smile (and possible pneumonia!) Thanks to everyone who supported this once in a life time series of events and to Lincs FM and Rutland Radio for their coverage.
